Meet the Maker

From Nursing to Stained Glass

Hey there! I’m Ailsa, owner/maker at Thomas Critchlow Art Glass (TCAG), based in Indiana.

After nearly 25 years as a registered nurse, I decided it was time to retire. Nursing was a big part of my life, but I was ready to dive into something new.

Stained glass started out as a hobby years ago. I’d spend hours cutting and shaping glass, making pieces for fun, and giving them away to friends and family. As more people encouraged me to sell my work, I realized this could be more than a hobby. Taking that leap was both exciting and nerve-wracking, but I haven’t looked back since.

My first big project, the Elemental Drops on Kickstarter ,  was a big success thanks to family, friends, and fans!  I used those funds to stock my tiny basement studio with glass and a few new tools.

I have to say, a lot of what I did as a nurse really helps in my art. The patience and attention to detail definitely come in handy when I’m piecing together intricate glass designs. It’s a different kind of care, but it still feels really rewarding.

When I’m not in the studio or learning business "stuff", I’m probably reading, knitting, or cooking. I love working with my hands, whether it’s planting flowers or whipping up dinner. These little joys often sneak their way into my designs too—colorful, vibrant, and full of life.

I share my home with my hubby of over 30 years, our kids and two awesome dogs, Ranger and Rogue.
They keep me company while I’m working. They’re always nearby, making sure I take a break now and then.

Starting TCAG has been amazing, and I love creating pieces that bring a little color and joy into people’s lives. I'm excited to share my journey with you!

See you soon!
Ailsa
